In the 19th century, José Antonio Yorba received a vast landholding of 63,414 acres that spanned much of present-day Orange County. His son, Bernardo Yorba, was granted the Rancho Cañón de Santa Ana, covering 13,328 acres. The land remained in their possession even after the Mexican-American War in 1848. Today, the Don Bernardo Yorba Ranch House Site is recognized as a California Historical Landmark.

During the early 20th century, Jacob Stern purchased and named a portion of this land Yorba Linda. It was then subdivided for agriculture and manufacturing, with lemon and orange groves marking an agricultural turning point. The Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company began serving Yorba Linda in 1910, while Southern California Edison brought electricity to the town. A church and post office were also constructed.

Yorba Linda holds significance as Richard Nixon’s birthplace; he was born in a modest house designated National Historic Landmark. Visitors can explore his Presidential Library and Museum, which offers insights into his presidency, including foreign policy initiatives and the Watergate scandal, through extensive archives, exhibits, and interactive displays along with artifacts such as photographs/documents on beautifully landscaped grounds featuring replicas of White House East Room/birthplace home.
