History
In 1925, Walter and Adella Muckenthaler constructed an impressive 18-room mansion atop a hill in Fullerton. The mansion served as their family home and center for their citrus and nut farming business for over four decades. In 1965, Harold Muckenthaler generously donated the estate to Fullerton city, stipulating that it be used to stimulate creativity while preserving its heritage and architecture. Thus was born the Muckenthaler Cultural Center which received an award from the National Registry of Historic Places in 1999.
This Arts and Cultural Center, owned by the City of Fullerton but managed by the Muckenthaler Cultural Center Foundation’s Board of Directors, offers exceptional experiences to visitors. With close collaboration between the City and the Muck, nearly 100 events are held annually in their outdoor amphitheater or indoor cabaret space. The center also hosts five free-to-the-community Cultural Festivals, art gallery exhibits, lecture series, and occasional film events.
The Muckenthaler Cultural Center is a cultural hub and a premier wedding venue in the region. Colette’s Catering ensures that every wedding this site holds is genuinely memorable.
The education department at The Muck is committed to fostering artistic growth within its community. In addition to summer day camps for aspiring musicians and artists using their state-of-the-art recording studio established in 2018, they provide various programs catering to different demographics, including children on the Autism spectrum. Over 40k people annually benefit from these on-site classes or through collaborations with organizations supporting victims of domestic violence, homeless shelters, schools, libraries, and even prisons in Southern California.
