Instead, Anaheim Hills became a rural enclave boasting homes on large lots, hiking trails, a golf course, and low population density.

The community experienced rapid growth over the years, prompting the construction of a high school by Orange Unified School District in 1974 to cater to the expanding population. Several large developments were approved extending towards the 241 toll road until Irvine Company received approval for an additional 2,500 homes east of the toll road, which was later donated for preservation as open space. Anaheim Hills lies south of Yorba Linda, California. It is bordered by the 91 freeway at Imperial Highway to the north and the 55 freeway to the west, opposite Orange City. The community extends beyond Gypsum Canyon on the northeast side and borders unincorporated areas of Orange County and Cleveland National Forest. To its south are Santa Ana foothills, facing the Villa Park community. Anaheim Hills falls entirely within Anaheim’s city limits.
